Welcome to Globespinners, travel’s newest twist. As a journalist/photographer, I’ve been traveling the planet, always searching for the best, the quirkiest experiences to share with readers.
I wrote The Eccentric Traveler, A World of Curious Adventures, and contribute stories and images to publications across North America. My story on the San Antonio Toilet Seat Museum won a Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Award–frightening, isn’t it?
I look forward to hearing about your best, quirky experiences on the road.

We are planning on traveling this fall, late August, to York Harbor, Maine via Manchester, N.H. from O’Hare airport. We would also like to go from York Harbor to Bar Harbor and get on a boat (high seas ferry?) to Prince Edward Isles. After which back to Chicago. Do you have any suggestions to the time frame we are looking at? One of our main concerns is connecting from the Isles to a major airport for our return flight. We would probably like to visit as many places in the Isles. We are open to all suggestions.
Thank for your suggestions. We read your article in the February Senior Connection and are looking forward to the next edition in March.
Also, the boat excursion, The Victoy Chimes, – up to what age group is comfortable?
We are in our mid 60′s and 70′s.
Hi Shirley and Bob,
Great to hear from you! And lucky you, going to Maine and PEI–such beautiful places.
I’ll ask my colleagues in Maine tourism for their recommendations on a boat to Prince Edward Island, and get back with you. I sailed into PEI, so I don’t have first-hand knowledge of the airport there. I can check with Canadian colleagues, too, for their best advice.
Victory Chimes welcomes sailors of all ages–just fyi, you will be walking either barefoot or in deck shoes on the deck, in case that’s a concern. Everything is very casual.
Best,
Betsa
Hi Shirley and Bob,
Charlene Williams, VP of Nancy Marshall Communications, which represents Maine, offers these tips on Maine and the Victory Chimes:
“The high speed ferry from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia is no longer operating. From Maine, you would have to drive to Prince Edward Island. It’s about a 7 hour trip. I believe there are some ferry services between New Brunswick, Canada and PEI. I don’t have additional information on the the island itself.
As for the Victory Chimes, as long as you can go up and down ladders to get up and down from the deck to the galley and cabins, you can go. Some people go right up through their eighties.”
