I love my MINI Cooper–how can you not?–and popped in to see where they’re made at Plant Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. William Morris built Oxford’s first car, a Bullnose Morris, in 1913, and built this plant in the 1930s. The original MINI was built here in 1959; production returned in 2001 when the BMW Group modernized the plant for the production start-up of MINI. Let’s motor!

- Visitors can get close on the production tour.

- The high and low of MINI production.

- Robots outnumber human workers at Plant Oxford, but homo sapiens do the fine detail assembly.

- MINIs are now BMWs, but owners still festoon them with symbols of the UK.

- More than 200,000 travelers each year head to the MINI Oxford visitor center.

- You can park a MINI anywhere.
